Complimenting the landscape work xRez is pursuing, some dense urban locations have been shot as well, providing great subjects for gigapixel detail. In Boston, a view from the Prudential Tower’s Skywalk provided a good base to cover a portion of the city in narrow-field high density. Unfortunately, an automated pano head was not available, but 612 overlapping images were shot manually with a 300mm lens. Proving it is possible (but not sensible) to do a gigapixel shoot manually, luck held out and a successful stitch was made, resulting in a 95,000 by 40,000 pixel size image. On the island of Oahu, Hololulu was shot from two vantage points, yielding a closer and more expansive view of the hotel-laden cityscape. Downtown Los Angeles provides a good study of old and new architecure.

عمى الألوان - مرض ميئوس من علاجه لكنه لا يعيق الحياة

يعتبر عمى الألوان من الأمراض الميئوس من علاجها، لكن الأطباء ينصحون المصابين به بإيجاد وسيلة ما للتعايش معه وتقبله. المرض يصيب 8 بالمائة من الذكور و0.4 بالمائة من الإناث وينتج عن عيب جيني صغير.

الأسود تخلد ذكرى تأسيس مدينة رام الله

تجسد تماثيل الأسود الخمسة الواقعة في ساحة المنارة وسط مدينة رام الله تاريخ المدينة، التي تأسست على يد مهاجر من الكرك يدعى راشد الحدادين، حيث أقام هذه الاسود الخمسة رمزا لأبناءه، وتعطي صورة لأصول العائلات.

وكان هذا المهاجر قد قرر الرحيل عن موطنه بسبب تعقيدات عادات البداوة هناك. ويحكى ان راشد هذا اشترى خربة رام الله من عائلات البيرة القدامى، دون ان يعلم انه كان يؤسس لمدينة سيكون لها دور هام في تاريخ الفلسطينين.

ترمز هذه الأسود الى صبرى وشقير وابراهيم وجريس وحسان أولاد راشد الحدادين وأجداد عائلات رام الله القديمة.

وتعتزم بلدية رام الله تشييد نصب تذكاري لمؤسس المدينة بهدف تكريمه ولتعريف الاجيال القادمة بفضله في تأسيس مدينة الحكايات والكفاح.

اللون الأحمر يجذب الرجال!!

أثبتت دراسة حديثة أن اللون الأحمر يؤثر في الرجال بشكل كبير ويجذب أنظارهم أكثر من باقي الألوان. وأكدت الدراسة التي نشرت نتائجها مجلة "فوكوس" الألمانية في موقعها الالكتروني أن المرأة التي ترتدي اللون الأحمر في مقابلاتها مع الرجال تصبح "محط أنظارهم". وقال القائمون على الدراسة:"لا تدرك نساء كثيرات أن الرجال يمكن أن يفكروا بمثل هذه الطريقة البدائية ولكن يبدو أنهم يفعلون ذلك بدرجة ما"، وأكدوا أن الرجال أنفسهم لا يدركون قوة تأثير الألوان عليهم. وسجلت الدراسة ردود فعل مجموعة من الرجال إزاء اللون الأحمر حيث عرضت عليهم عدة صور لنساء يرتدين مجموعة مختلفة من الألوان. وطلب القائمون على الدراسة من الرجال تقييم كل امرأة في تلك الصور. وأظهرت النتيجة أن السيدات اللاتي يرتدين اللون الأحمر في الصور حصلن على أعلى تقديرات من الرجال رغم أن بعض الصور كانت مكررة لنفس المرأة ولكن بألوان ملابس مختلفة.

الرفراف الجميل يحصل على لقب "طائر العام2009"

أعلنت الجمعية الألمانية لحماية البيئة وجمعية حماية الطيور في ولاية بافاريا اليوم في مؤتمر صحفي منح طائر" الرفراف" أو "صياد السمك" Alcedo atthis الجميل لقب "طائر العام 2009"، وذلك للفت الانتباه إلى المخاطر المحدقة بهذا الطائر، بعد اختفائه من كثير من مناطق التي كان يتواجد فيها. وتعتبر المناطق النهرية والأحواض المائية البيئة الطبيعية لهذا الطائر الذي يتغذى على الأسماك الصغيرة والحشرات المائية وغيرها من الحيوانات والسرطانات البحرية.

وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية (ناسا) ترصد ثلوج في سحب كوكب المريخ

أعلنت وكالة الطيران والفضاء الأمريكية (ناسا) أن المركبة الفضائية "فينيكس مارس" عثرت على ثلوج تتساقط من السحب فوق كوكب المريخ. وأظهرت أجهزة فينيكس أن الثلوج تتبخر قبل أن تصل إلى الأرض. وقال الباحث جيم وايتواي من جامعة يورك في تورنتو: "لم ير أحد مثل هذا المنظر في المريخ.. سنبحث عن إشارات على أن الثلوج يمكن أن تصل إلى الأرض (أرض المريخ)". وقال العلماء أيضا إنهم عثروا على مادة كربونات الكالسيوم وهي المادة الرئيسية المكونة للطباشير وربما الصلصال وهاتين مادتين لا تتكونان إلا في وجود المياه السائلة. وكانت فينيكس أكدت في وقت سابق وجود ثلوج على سطح المريخ. ويعد اكتشاف وجود مياه سائلة على سطح المريخ أمرا أساسيا لمعرفة إذا كانت وجدت حياة على سطح الكوكب الصخري من قبل.
